What If I Want To Respond To Student Writing?

My advice is: Don’t get yourself worn out. There are lots of professional tasks you can do, including designing amazing writing lessons. Think of yourself as being willing to work 60 hours a week at being the best teacher in the world – how should you spend your hours?

But, there can be times when you might like to know what students re thinking. Just choose one two week period in the year. Divide your class list into thirds. Respond to 1/3 of the class each day. By the end of two weeks your student will each have received about 3 responses.  Enough!

Oh, and put your responses on post-its. If they really do save their Extreme Writing books, they will not need to see your responses cluttering up their page.
